Encounters with Israeli Writers
December 18, 2008 Beit Avichai, Jerusalem

Etgar Keret and Shahara Blau
An evening devoted to the art of writing with Etgar Keret and
Shahara Blau, two of Israel’s top contemporary literary figures.
Etgar Keret’s (1967) compilation of short stories, screenplays, and
comic books, have been extremely well received within Israeli society.
Many regard his writing as idiosyncratic of a whole generation of
young Israeli writers, particularly the body of literature published in
Israel during the second half of the 1990s. Born in Ramat Gan, Keret
currently lives in Tel Aviv.
Shahara Blau (1973) is a writer and journalist who often appears on
Israeli radio and television to discuss issues concerning the Holocaust
and the religious-secular divide within Israeli society. Blau was born
in the religious neighborhood of Bnei Brak where she continues to live
today.
Holocaust Remembrance Day
with the Israeli Pisk Theater Company
April 20, 2009 Jerusalem Theater, Jerusalem
Observe Holocaust Memorial day with Israel’s Psik Theater’s original
rendition of The Court Jesters, a play that tells the story of four Jewish
inmates of Auschwitz chosen to serve as court jesters for the camp
commandant.
The strong desire to live and make some sense of life connects the
world of the concentration camp to contemporary reality and brings
the court jesters close to those who are willing to listen and remember.
